With shipping classes, you classify your items and use them to filter the shipping options. When you assign a shipping class to an item, only the shipping options that match the same class are eligible for it. This way, you ensure, for example, that bulky goods are shipped by freight forwarder and not by parcel service. In addition, each shipping class has a priority. If several shipping options with different classes match an order, the option with the higher-priority class wins.

Navigate to the shipping classes

Open the Shipping Classes list via Search. It shows all classes that have already been created, with Code, Description, and Priority.

Create a new shipping class

Select New in the menu bar. A new line is created in which you maintain the Code and Description.
Write the code in uppercase and without spaces. Numbers and the usual special characters are allowed. You can choose the description freely.
For a class for standard parcels, you might assign the code PAKET and the description “Paket - Standard”, for example. You later use the same code to link the class with shipping options and items.
As soon as you press Enter or leave the line, the change is saved automatically.

Set the priority

The order in the list determines the priority of the classes. Select a class and move it to the desired position using Move Up or Move Down in the menu bar.This priority decides which shipping option wins when several options with different shipping classes are valid for an order.
